Large Parakeet

A term used for a medium parrot with a long tail. Bright in colour, some large parakeets will happily live with other species, there are however exceptions. Parakeets have very similar needs in terms of looking after. Parakeets are naturally active and like to stay busy, some will climb, jump, fly but they do like toys that stimulate and prevent boredom.

Keeping parakeets as pets - Unless handreared, Alexandrines, Derbyans and Quakers will normally all tame down. You may never get cuddly tame but it is possible to get them to sit n your hand and feed from it. Ringnecks can be notoriously stubborn. There is no time scale on taming a bird so it best to do your research before commiting. Rosellas are not your typicall hand tame bird. They tend to be very flighty and are suited more to an aviary.
